A personal encounter with the Siraya culture 

Last Friday we visit, the tribal elder Wan Zheng-hsiung, a descendant of the Pingpu (Taiwan Plains Aborigines) residing in Sinhua Township. Mr. Wan is the director of the Tainan Pingpu Siraya Cultural Association. He is also a parishioner of the Kuobei Presbyterian Church, who has been for many years spearheading a movement to revive Sirayan culture, including a nearly impossible mission, which is to revive the Sirayan language. His home and center of his association is lotaced outside of Sinhua in the forest. The center show old photos, artifacts and offer teaching books for the Siraya language. However the center gives the impression how difficult it is to present a culture which nearly mixed and get absorbed by the Han Chinese culture. However we had the possible to ask him questions and my questions where based on my project concept.

Questions like the encounter with other cultures (the Sirayas where the first tribe who encounter foreigners coming to Taiwan) the matriarchal concept they had, intermarriage, land issues and still the remaining problem for get recognized  fully as indigenous people. One aspects that here culture distinguish and mixed more with other culture than any other tribe in Taiwan.

Eine persönliche Begegnung mit der Siraya Kultur 

Am vergangenen Freitag besuchten wir den  Stammesältesten Wan Zheng-hsiung, ein Nachkomme der Pingpu (Taiwan Plains Aborigines) mit Wohnsitz in Sinhua Township. Herr Wan ist der Direktor des Tainan Pingpu Siraya Kulturverein. Er ist auch ein Prediger der Kuobei Presbyterian Church, die seit vielen Jahren die Speerspitze einer Bewegung ist mit der Aufgabe der Wiederbelebung der Sirayan Kultur. Darunter zählt auch eine fast unmögliche Mission, um die Sprache wieder zu beleben. Seine Heimat und Zentrum seines Vereins liegen außerhalb von Sinhua im Wald . Das Zentrum zeigt alte Fotos, Siraya Gegenstände und bietet Lehrbücher für die Siraya Sprache an. Das Zentrum gibt jedoch einen guten Eindruck, wie schwierig es ist, eine Kultur, die beinah verschwunden ist und von der Han-chinesischen Kultur fast komplett absorbiert worden ist zu präsentieren. Allerdings hatten wir die Möglichkeit, ihm Fragen zustellen. Meine Fragen bezogen, sich auf mein Projekt Konzept. 

Fragen wie die Begegnung mit anderen Kulturen (die Sirayas, waren der erste Stamm, die Kontakt hatten mit Ausländer die nach Taiwan kamen ) das matriarchale Konzept, das sie hatten, Mischehen, Landfragen und immer noch die verbleibenden Problemen für volle Anerkennung als Ureinwohner. Alles Aspekte, hier eine Kultur zu unterscheiden die sich mehr als andere Stammeskulturen auf Taiwan mit anderen Kulturen gemischt hat.
